“I grew up surrounded by racing. I use to live very close to the Snetterton track in Norwich. My dad owned the local gas, hotel, and pub combination. He was a keen supporter of racing and lot of the drivers would come by and my dad would take care of them. The place was decorated in a racing motif and I was immersed in racing from an early age,” explains Dyson Racing driver Ben Devlin.

Ben began his racing career at the age of 12 in karting, honing his craft in three different formulas. Three years later, Ben joined the Jim Russell School of Racing at Donnington, received his license when he was sixteen and won his first single seater race. He put his mark on the series by winning the next four consecutive races.

Having achieved these five wins, Ben earned the opportunity to compete for the school’s scholarship. He won the scholarship and received his first taste of racing in the United States by competing in the finals at Sears Point, CA. He won that first race also.

Ben’s career was further boosted in 2000 when he became the 'Young Star' in the Lotus Autobytel Ellise Championship Series, racing under the TOCA banner. At the age of twenty, he was learning some of the more famous European circuits including Spa in Belgium, Nurburgring in Germany, and Magny-Coeurs in France.

Seeking to further broaden his career, Ben went back to the U.S. the next year, racing in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series driving a Nissan Lola SRPII for Archangel Motorsport. He raced four races in Grand -Am starting with a debut win at Road America and followed by a win at Watkins Glen and two second places at Daytona and Trois Rivieres. He also raced in the ALMS at Road Atlanta, where he co-drove to a second in class in the ten-hour classic endurance race.

He campaigned the full ALMS LMP P675 championship in 2002, taking class wins at Infineon and Road America and finishing second in the championship.

His competitive forte in prototype sports car racing was further recognized in 2007 when he was picked as a driver for the Mazda Lola LMP2 car of B-K Motorsports, driving the Lola for two years. This year, Ben brings his multi-year knowledge base of the Mazda Lola package to Dyson Racing as they embark on their new long-term partnership with Mazda and the Lola LMP2 Coupe.

Devlin noted that “Dyson Racing has always been a team that stands out: not just in sports cars, but across the board: it is one of the best put-together teams in North America. It was a team I looked up to in 2001 when I first joined the American Le Mans Series. With the Mazda partnership and the team’s commitment, it certainly should be a strong year for us.”
