LONG BEACH, CA April 16, 2011 – Dyson Racing capped off their Long Beach weekend with a second place finish in today’s American Le Mans Series race. It was the best finish at Long Beach for the team and they leave the weekend with the LMP1 points lead. The #16 G-OIL/ModSpace/Construct Corps Mazda Lola was fastest in the only practice session yesterday in addition to starting the race from the pole position.

“We have a lot of positives to take away from this weekend,” Chris Dyson said. “We are heading into the second half of the season with one of the best championship starts we have had in a while. We are still at a slight disadvantage to the Muscle Millk Car, but at the end of the day, we had a very good weekend. We accomplished everything we could today given the pace, and we are heading to Lime Rock with momentum on our side.”

Dyson started the LMP1 Mazda Lola entry for the iconic eleven turn, two-mile California coastal street-track. He was passed by the Muscle Milk Aston Martin shortly after the start, but maintained a close second through his stint. He handed the car over to teammate Guy Smith sixteen seconds out of first a little over an hour into the two-hour race. Guy fought a track that continued to lose grip as the race wore on, and finished second when the race finished under yellow for an accident eight minutes from the end.

“It was a challenging race, but the main goal was to score solid points,” said Smith. “There is disappointment in that we felt we had the opportunity to win, but it turned out we did not have the pace in the race we had in qualifying. But looking at the big picture of the championship, we leave California in a good frame of mind.”

The American Le Mans series takes their annual Le Mans break with the next race at Dyson Racing’s home track, Lime Rock CT on July 9. The team’s first professional race was in 1983 at the IMSA Coca-Cola Three Hours of Lime Rock. Of the thirty-seven cars entered in that race, Dyson Racing is the only team still racing today.
